Step Therapy – An Obstacle Course to Optimal Health

Have you had to try and fail on one or more drugs before your insurance company would cover the drug originally prescribed by your provider? If so, you have been affected by step therapy, also known as fail first. You are not alone. Recent surveys indicate that over 40 percent of patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis have had to try and fail on one or more drug(s) before accessing the provider-prescribed treatment. Dealing with step-therapy protocols while living with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) can be physically and emotionally draining. Learn more about these fail-first protocols and the impact they have on the IBD community with our new educational webinar and resources.

This presentation provides an overview of step therapy, and information on how you can participate in the Foundation’s advocacy efforts to reform the practice of step therapy on the state and federal levels.
